    Fixing Rust damage.

    Hi all,

I just bought a 1989 318i that is in pretty good shape but needs some TLC. The body is in pretty shape except for this one rusted out part. I'm wondering if you think it is worth it to try and fix it. I'm stationed in Germany and it won't pass inspection with this hole. I found an e30 the same color at the junk yard that I can cut up if need be. What do you guys think about trying to fix this.

I hope the pictures are good enough.

    Thanks

Looks worse than it really is, you have already started repair and your almost halfway there. Cut the rust off cobble a patch in. Remove flammable components, Dont let the structure flex. Something similar to this. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply. The auto shop was telling me it might cost an additional 500 Euro, that would be doubling my investment up front without fixing all the small stuff it needs, like new gaskets everywhere that can leak, bushings, shocks and brakes. Your picks look good, that mustang is nice. I will get the dash removed, cut a portion from the donor and take it to the body shop for the welding. hopefully it won't cost too much that way.

cut out as much extra (within reason) as you can, it will help the shop.
