ummm help? Previous owner was dumb

sup everyone I just picked up a e30 shell that is completely rust free except for one area.... The previous owner tried to do a sunroof delete and failed miserably and fucked up the roof.

What I was thinking of doing is cutting out the sunroof area and spot welding in a panel or something. I really don't know what to do.

now on to the pics, brace yourselves

        Cut roof. Then replace roof.

Xworks or Vlad I am sure can give you a few pointers.

hmm any ideas where I can still get a roof skin? I have another shell at home but its a 2 door. Its completely wrecked from behind but the roof is perfect. Would I be able to swap it over? I was thinking just cutting out a piece from the 2 door and cutting a slightly smaller piece out of the 4 door and just placing the piece on top and spot welding it on and then hate to say it but bondo? lol I have never done body work so please correct me if my idea isn't a good one.

It would look like warmed over ass if you tried to lay the piece over the existing roof and welded it over it. You need to create a recess in the existing roof skin to make it sit flush. Search online. They make tools to create the recessed lip for the new panel to sit in. Look in the paint and body section here. There is a guy who did a complete ground up resto on his E30 M3 and I think he showed a picture of the tool used to make the recess as he had to replace some of his body panels. Good luck bro.....

thanks for all the advice guys!! i decided to just use all the rust free panels off the car and swamp them onto a running e30 I just picked up. I shall be repainting the whole car graphite grey (same paint that the lancer evo mr is painted)

the shell with the fucked up roof will just be parted out.
