Rust on 325ix: what should i do?

well my 91 325ix has some rust on it and with winter around the corner i wanted to get it repaired before it gets any worst. i was quoted $700 to repair and resprayed the area. what do you guys think? too much money? anyone around central nj interested in giving me a quote for repair?

$700 for all of it? That sounds reasonable if they're fully cutting out all the new stuff, welding in new panels, and blending all the paint. That actually seems very reasonable imo.

I'd just wait for summer and respray the whole thing and get all the dents and rust fixed and everything. It's been through 20-something winters, it's not gonna fall apart after one more.

Unless you respray the whole car, it's going to look awful. You've got pretty faded paint.

$700 is a great price, but I think that car probably has more rust then what you have pictured. Have you looked under the carpet, and into the firewall and wheel wells? You might find a lot more, and possibly enough that may make you reconsider trying to salvage the chassis.

Getting that 1/4 panel straight is going to be a job in itself. That thing looks wavy as hell, looks like someone used a ball peen to hammer out a huge dent or something. The valance will be easy, and the door looks like just surface rust.

Just make sure you know the condition of the overall chassis before you go spending money fixing the little cosmetic rust.

I cant imagine the uphill battle you east coasters have with keeping rust out of your 20 year old BMWs. I would never take my convertible outside.

Im tackling some small jobs like this around my car in prep for painting it myself in the near future. Im grinding out all the surface rust spots and bondoing it and i added new sheet metal for the valance.

these are the only areas that have rust on them. I check the car all around during the summer and these are the only areas with rust.
I might just get these areas repaired only and wait till the summer for a full respray giving me time to save some money and do some more freshin up. it's my daily driver and with winter coming up there's nothin much to do body wise
