Question about Paint spec on 1986 325es

I'm trying to figure out what it going on with the existing paint, and how much I should try and salvage.

It is the brilliantrot red from 1986. The driver's door and rear quarter have peeling clearcoat. Looks like it could be a respray job (?). The rest of the paint is without peel.

The front hood had two spots where the red has turned orange. Something bleached the paint. Also on the hood's edges it is worn down past the paint

I find it hard to believe that all the clear has peeled off the car and only the two peeling panels have some left.

Were 1986 red cars single stage?

If the car is non-metallic then it was painted single stage from the factory.

Yes but as you know, a lot can happen in 25 years.
