door hinge loose, not the door check/stop

Hi All,

i've replaced my broken door stop on my drivers door, only to find out the mount (the part the rod and pin connect to) is loose and i can see it move while opening and closing the door...is there a way to tighten that part?


just to clarify the loose part is the part on the body itself, not the door stop that is bolted to the door.

Had the same problem on my 85 325e. It wasn't the door brake but the weld in the body that it attaches to had broken causing the brake to pop whenever you open/close the door. I never did fix that problem.

My son has the same problem on his 88is. Still hasn't been fixed. Would love to see a decent write up on fixing that difficult to get to area. Fender removal then what?

mine is the same popping sound, but where the door brake bolts to the door, the top bolt ripped through the metal (sometime with the PO)

i've replaced it, added a washer on either side of the door frame, made sure its straight, but it moves around where the pin goes. right now its a bolt, getting a replacement pin now and hopefully the popping will go away. if not, i think if these door brakes aren't perfectly centered then they may make noise?

Insane E30 - there's a reinforcement plate for your ripped out bolt...i forget exactly who makes it K-something, but it's supposed to help with stripped out mounting bolts.


to Everyone else - so it's sounding like that peice which the pin goes through is welded in then? that sucks since i'm not a welder hahaha. but yeah any write ups or ideas would be great info. i might just have to go out there and find a welder to give it a quick zap.

does anyone know how i access the spot weld which holds the hinge?

should i remove the fender? or is it on the inside of the cabin?

We can drill out the spot weld from the front and lay a small bead on it from the outside. The only other way I see getting at it is from the backside after removing the dash.

damn, really? i didn't know the dash would have to be removed in order to get to the weld! no wonder know one has a quick fix for this lol

never thought of drilling it from the front, sounds like thats the easiest way. thanks man!
