    Paint Choice

    hey everyone,

I am looking for some paint for my Schwarz E30. I tried using Dupli Color Paint Shop......and the paint was abysmal. I am gonna re-paint it again soon, but i need some opinions on some good black/jet black paint to match. Im not looking to spend like $300 bucks on just some paint. Any suggestions would be great.

    thanks!

I agree, you would be better off driving around in primer an extra few weeks then cheaping out on your paint job. Its just one of those things.

These guys probably have never painted a car before. I recommend PPG products. I used PPG basecoat and reducer for color. Then follow with PPG Omni Clear. Very nice results, OEM or better.

But then again, quality of a paint job is all about prep. You should be able to get these products under $300 at an auto paint store.

Why does it matter if I've never painted a car before? I could have told him all that. But I think the price will be closer to 500 once it's all said and done.

All you've said is "ftfy," you have not even spoke a complete sentence in this thread. The OP is looking for product advice, be more helpful next time if you have paint experience.

Glasurit paint is a bit more than PPG but from my experience its well worth it. Honestly if your shooting a whole car and not worrying about matching the paint, you can go with pretty much any basecoat. The most important part of the paint is clear. So you can get something cheaper for the basecoat, but for the clear go with ppg, dupont, or glasurit. Hope thats helpful.

Edit: Also dont go with a single stage paint, after a year or so your paints going to start to fade.

Then why didnt you tell him that? instead of some asshole response of "ftfy". r3v isn't your personal playground to mess with people who have serious questions.

And this here too..... WTF? Why would someone flame the guy?

I know with the OMNI paint. I got a qt. of schwarz for my car. It wasnt a pure black. It had a brown tint to it under somelights. It was black to look at in natural light, but pull it into the garage, and get to looking at it, well you could tell it wasnt pure black. It was a single stage i got too.

This is pretty much verbatim what the gentleman currently painting my car said.

When I painted a benz SL at work, we used a purple basecoat. It was a random mix of a couple dark colors and it turned out dark purple. Worked great. Then we painted the metallic grey/black over it.
