How many cans to paint engine bay?

Hey guys-how many cans does it take to paint an engine bay? I'm thinking of getting them from somewhere like paintscratch.com. Gonna be pulling out the engine for my swap and want to spray the bay a different color.

I'm guessing 2 coats base and 2 clear?

Since your in oakland, I would contact Neds Autobody. That is where I get my paint stuff. They are very very helpful. Just tell them what you wanna do and they will give you great advice. Might wanna consider 1 stage paint or a special clear coat that wont turn yellow from the heat.

Youll need maybe 1 1/2 spray cups full. So 1qt of base plus your reducer usually a 1.1 ratio You'll have 2qts mixed witch is enough to spray with good coverage. Clear... Some people have a preference for good clear that costs a bunch but if it was me I'd run on the cheeper side. Only because I paint cars for a living and know that with 3 coats of clear it will hold up. Ive painted engine blocks with normal automotive paint and never had any problems with heat. If your motor is melting paint or discoloring in the engine compartment you have other issues.
