    Post Sand Cleaning?

Stripped paint off my wheels to reveal they have at least three layers of different paint on them. Anyhow I've decided to just sand them smooth and paint over it some parts are bare metal some still have old paint.

Yesterday I sanded pretty smooth and a question came to mind.

After sanding them what's the best way to remove the dust / prepare for painting?

I plan on painting them when I'm back from class later today, after doing a fine grit sanding can I just wipe them clean with paint thinner and paint? Or should I use water?

    Thanks for the help!

Don't use water. Sand down the existing clear coat completely. Its OK to leave the base coat paint and get it very smooth. Be at somewhere around 600 -800 grit. The it would be best to air spray with an air compressor. Then use a tack cloth to do final wipe. You can get away with a microfiber with diluted alcohol. Make sure all has evaporated and spray your basecoat.

Yeah a few resources said Acetone will do the trick just wanted to make sure I don't fuck this up after all the sanding and scraping....

I wish I had an air compressor and spray gun someday when I have the money, along with a table saw and air tools mmm the good life.

      Thanks man

tack cloths work really well to remove dust and are cheap ($1ish) and available at pretty much any hardware store, they get used for woodworking and a ton of other uses. Then I just wipe with a lintfree cloth or papertowel and alcohol.
