    Roll on paint job

So I have seen a lot of videos, and read a lot of positive reviews about the "$50 Roll on paint jobs."

I am really wanting to try this with my car. Possibly just my hood before bimmerfest, and then my entire car after (Red '89 325, doing just a black hood for now. I will eventually go back to all red)

Now most people use Rustoleum in their paint jobs and thin it with Mineral Spirits. I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a non oil based paint? Or is oil based/acrylic paint the only way to do this. I know I'd get the same finish My car came with (Oil based/Acrylic that is) But was curious if other paints were a possibility.

Also, would I roll on a clear coat as well? Or just do a few thick layers of the base, and wetsand/polish that in the end?

For the amount of time and effort you put in to get it looking like a real spray job, why not just spend a little more money and buy a cheap hvlp gun and real automotive paint?

i have a red car that Im painting the hood in black primer just like your idea.

Probably not painting it red. But I rustoleumed the fiberglass mtech front bumper in red.

I used cans and clear coat ( its a 2 stage paint also on youtube. Not thinned and it wrinkles even worse)

as far as urethane I have actually seen cars painted in urethane white frequently but they are ugly trucks.
First find a source for cheap urethane auto paint, then worry about rollering it. If you spend 200 on paint buy a spray gun.... or here if you spend MORE on paint than a spray gun costs, get a spray gun and rustoleum...... fair enough?

I couldnt find anyone using a roller using urethane paint on youtube using search. I wouldnt be hopefull. But if you find a guide link it here I like to collect things like that. In general after it costs a certain amount, you reach the point of what e46 said, why not spend 150 more for a real paint sprayer and portable air, and then sell it when youre done as used once.....

You can find any 2 stage acrylic roll on paint, and then clear coat it however everyone who clear coated their rustoleum used spray cans ( Ridiculous for a whole car)

So yes theres 2 stage rustoleum clear coated cars on youtube but that sounds too expensive to make sense ( I estimate.... 15 cans at 5.00 a can thats 75$ and more....? for the clear coat part only....lookin pretty homemade)
