black trunk roundel

oh well almost any round symbol is a roundel.
I used the correct word every time I used it.
Your links are interesting but I missed the point. I have actually been researching hood ornaments and badges, like for mach truck, to put in the place of my plastic roundel peice of crap so I happen to have been looking at the cool 50s stuff you were also.
all roundels on cars are also badges. The most generic term is badge then that covers all of them. So badge is the correct word.
If a badge or roundel is on the hood its a hood ornament, if its on a grill its a badge lol. Bmw puts their badge roundel symbol on their hood. So does geo. Nissan symbol is a roundel but infiniti is not.
Are we agreed?
I dont think most people using the word roundel realize that the vw symbol is a roundel, or the acura symbol is a roundel.
But the ford badge is not or the lexus one, because they are ovals. Bmw associates with the roundell more than acura because they always use a roundel and acura does not always.
the most common vehicle badges are ovals. Maybe they dont want to be called roundels?
Yes if the pontiac symbol is in a circle it would be a roundel. I just looked and of course Im right, the pontiac symbol on the 90s grand am is in a roundel. So is the buick 3 shields symbol. So is the chrysler symbol on the pt cruiser, if you ignore the wings the roundel is on.
I will let you be the official word definition decider Agent. Are we agreed they are all badges?Last edited by stamar; 04-12-2012, 03:27 PM.

No you didn't. You used "roundrel," which is incorrect.
I know.
You finally said something that makes sense. Although I never argued that point.
Acura didn't even have a badge until four years after its introduction (to the US market). Acura didn't start out making airplanes either. And you misspelled roundel again. Yes, I'm being pedantic now.
Again, I never argued the point that the roundel was not a badge. It is indeed a badge, but once more, the words "badge" and "ornament" are not interchangeable.Comment

ok you mean spelling the word. Ive always known what the word means but at times I type on a droid 2. you can have all the fun you want correcting my spelling on message forums.
ok I wont call badges ornaments.
???? Ill call them badges. Badge is the uniform word of all of them. I obviously was not totally clear on that.
they always seem to be ornamental to me.

Arent all badges.... ornaments? It doesnt matter. heres what matters..... I dont recomend using the word roundel because 90% of people dont really know what it means. Most are totally ignorant.
Ornament? Maybe 50 50,
But Badge.... I think everyone knows what badge means so thats what Ill use and no teenagers will contradict me.
wrong or right you are in charge of what to call them. Go with something otherwise you actually just waste time comparing somantics and then you lose track of what you are communicating.Last edited by stamar; 04-12-2012, 05:19 PM.

Do you hear what you're saying ever? Pontiac hasn't used a "round" type emblem since the 50's. And that thought about making fun of MB is only something you would dream up. Plus another thing. The original roundels on e30s are made of a metal. Not a cheap plastic like you keep saying.hah...
I dont want to even give it a seperate name from symbols. A roundrel. its round.
pontiacs changed a lot over the years but they had one that was just round in the same spots bmw likes. still a triangle but in a circle
I think its silly to take it seriously. It is definitely among the cheapest things any car maker has ever put on a car its a plastic circle. It is almost making fun of car symbols like mercedes, thats what I always interpretted it as. The symbol means nothing put the money into the car.
the ornament is a silly thing, it used to be way more elaborate. BMW has always been sort of anti ornament its the cheapest thing around.
Ive seen a lot of bmws debadged but Id like to see some rebadges.
The lists of ornaments is interesting. It seems that the size of ornaments comes and goes, and modern cars they are becoming larger again.
Our cars were made in a more toned down ornament period. My 89 truck has no ornaments at all just the manufacturer nissan on the tailgate.
If you like different roundrels go for it. If you like the orignal cheap plastic circle thats cool too its all taste. Im inclined to keep it stock myself but transformers rock.

Ya I must have one orignal one replacement. Both say bmw on it, oem bmw roundel. One is tin around plastic for the trunk one just plastic and resin.
My interest in badge statistics is almost at its end. Always love the 40k car with the 2c tin circle on it.
Im looking for one of those bulldog mack truck ornaments for my truck though.
Much as I enjoy chatting with you Im done.
Op
Found lots in ebay not sure if they fit.
this is not the color but this is a company that carries it look at their store

I don't understand why everything stamar posts has to be:
1. A complete essay that honestly makes zero sense. And 99% of the time is hardly relevant to the conversation.
2. Always trying to start an argument
3. So completely moronic it gives me a headache.
