Freshen Up Rubber Section on Mtech 1 Spoiler?

Just bought an Mtech 1 rear spoiler. The rubber section is in very nice condition, not dry rotted, scratched, or gouged.

However, it is a little bit faded and I'd like to return it to a nice black.

What would be the best product to use?

Seeing as that it is rubber rather than plastic, I've never dealt with a material like this before.

    Thanks.

Not for the long term I'd imagine. I know people often recommend this for the plastic trim on MK2s and it loses its effect after the first week/rainstorm.

Interesting. In all seriousness, do you have a suggestion?

I've used back to black many times on the Mk2s and again, it is a short term solution. Perhaps for a weekend car, it's not a big deal, but mine's almost daily driven and I'd prefer not to be recoloring the spoiler every few weeks.

Let me ask this: has anyone ever painted the black portion using something like a satin black Krylon Fusion? Or is that frowned on?

You can most certainly paint it, it's what most of us have done but you will have to do it again in a year or so. The secret is in the preping, just like anything else paint goes onto.

I never like back to black either but its the only name that comes to mind....lol. I have had good luck with armorall like products on black plastics.

Anyway, I had a painted m tech 1 spoiler on my first car. Just used a lot of flex agent and was careful not to touch it too much. The weight of the spoiler easily slams the trunk closed anyway.

Good point, a flex agent would have to be used because the spoiler is soft. That would require using a gun, rather than a spray can, and real paint. I can do all that, but it's a bit of effort and expense. I may as well try a back to black product first and just see how it works. If not well, then shoot for a more permanent solution.

If anyone still has other options, I'd be happy to hear them.

If you want' it done right let a pro do it, and make sure they use tons of pre-kleano as all that back to black, silicone and other petroleum base shine products will create little fish eyes on your pain job.

I'm more than capable of painting it if that's what it comes down to, but I'd prefer to keep the "rubber" look that's original I think. Just want it to stay black.

What if you sanded/primed and hit it with duplicolor trim paint since you want it black? Any cracks that form would be hidden and you can always respray as needed. I'm just throwing that out there.
