This is a great write up and this looks like a really useful thing to know. Thank you. But I know nothing about using the technique. How far can the clear be gone and still have it work? For any of you who know, can you look at this car and tell me it's too far gone? http://medford.craigslist.org/cto/3210979458.html. The car is probably too far away for me to be really interested, I'm just curious. If the paint can be fixed without a full repaint, it gets much more interesting. Especially if that low mileage is true. Thanks.

The clear's peeling man. That paint is fucked. You can reshoot just the clear coat though.

no need to reshoot it. I could make that look un tarnished.

So, assuming I try to do the wet sand routine and it doesn't work. Any idea what it would cost to just reshoot the clear on the flat horizontal surfaces?

By sanding off all the clear and polishing the color coat?

you def do not want to sand off the clear coat. On older cars skip the sanding and just buff the clear thats on it. The clear coat is way to thin to be sanding you'll go right through it into the base coat and then will need paint repair.

^If the clear's peeling you don't really have a choice. You can make clear thats oxidized on the surface look new, but once it delaminates from the base coat you're pretty much screwed.
