Stupid ice covered roads... pulled my fender lip

So I'm washing my car today, and I notice when I get to the driver side fender that apparently, my tire caught the lip at some point, pulled it in 2 spots right next to each other. Chipped the paint off a little too, but I can fix the pulls myself, that fender needs to be repainted anyway. Just annoying is all. We've had a pretty rough winter this year, and when the snow got really packed on the roads, it would just turn to huge ice blocks all over the place, and I know I felt my car bottom out a couple of times, so it must have happened then. Pushing the pulled parts back in won't be hard, and I can get the fender repainted cheap, just a pain in the ass.

I guess what I'm really wondering is when I get it repainted, since my car is schwarz and I don't have clearcoat, will it match up to the other panels alright? The rest of my paint is in really good condition, still very deep black. When I waxed it over the summer, I was amazed at how deep black it still was. None of my paint has any fading, just it's share of swirls, light scratches, etc. That fender already had several pretty bad chips, and a couple that were really badly touched up, so I was planning to have it repainted anyway. I'm thinking that with a pretty basic color like schwarz, it should be easy to match up to the other panels.

Yeah, I just haven't had the chance to get under and pull the rears to adjust them.

These big chunks of ice that form on the roads are twice as big as most speed bumps, and they are just everywhere. Turn a corner, and BAM, you nail one.

I ask because no matter how good your paint is, its hard to color match perfectly, especially on big body panels. Not only does paint age over the years, but specific conditions down to the type of gun that is used and the angle that its sprayed out can affect how the paint turns out.

Josh, my bet is that you hit the fender to your tire when you were going into some driveway. I've NEVER pulled mine during normal driving, it only happens in really uneven parking lots, driveways, etc.

Nope, I know exactly what corner I did it on, I drove around it today. When it was really icy, there is one corner that I went around only twice, and there was a ton of ice right in the entrance to it, and both times I went over it, I felt my car "hit" really hard, and it was on that side of the car, so I'm almost positive that's where I did it.

It needs to be repainted especially now, because of how much paint chipped off right above where the pulled spots in the fenders are. It's not a ton, but probably a spot almost an inch long chipped off. I'm not really concerned about it matching 100%, I know that the only person that will notice is me. My car's not a show car, it's a driving car.

So have the spot repainted, and blend a very small area... much less intrusive then painting the whole fender which will never match.

In all honesty Josh, you should just bend it back and, and touch it up. If it's a driving car, just cover it up so it doesn't get rusty, and call it good. After realizing that my roof is fading badly...I've grown to accept the fact that my car is doomed paint wise - so I just pretty much call it good.

If your paint's good, fix it, and move on. :)

I think I just might do that. I hope I can get it to look alright, there's a few rock chips already that were touched up, but not very well. But I'm pretty good at doing things like that, so it should be fine.

Mine paint is doomed too, I stopped caring. Its about time 15 year old paint showed its age. Maybe I'll paint it next summer.
