So do you guys usually just repaint this black or can it just be scrubbed off and left alone? What've you done?

Did you take off the original coating first?

No, that shit needs an angle grinder. The original coating is more rigid.
The stuff needed quite a bit of time to dry though. Sprays on looking brown, but turned black in time.

My rockers looked pretty much like yours. I gave them a good cleaning then refinished with SEM Chip Guard in satin black (#39813) and it came out great. Oreilly brought a can in for me as they didnt have it in stock and it was about $25.

I've seen people use spray on bedliner as well. Paint would work fine though, just more likely to chip. Rubber doesn't really chip. lol

Do they come off? Or do you guys just tape off the rest of the car?

I don't think they come off. I'd suggest taping and masking with newspaper or painter tarp

I am about to tackle this job on my newly aquired E30.

It looks like the options are spraying, or rolling it on. Rustoleum brushed and rolled is obviously the cheapest.

Anyone have any input/reviews on what they used?

I rollered on some undercoating on the rockers. Left on the original stuff and just supplemented with the new stuff. Came out matt black and REALLY clean lookin. No need for taping off etc.
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!
