They have good maaco jobs as well. You cant expect to oay $600 and get a show winning paint job.

That being said, if you want to put some time in and do the body work and prep, you often can save money towards a better job.

I did all the priming and welding and stuff, the material cost a few hundred. It's going in for the paint soon, which will be cheaper since they're just laying down color, not doing other stuff that I can do.

Just had damage repaired on both quarter panels - a shoe sized dent in one, fist sized in the other (on the weld seam). New bumper and side bumper cover. Paint blended on the quarters, then clear shot over both quarters, the trunk, passenger door, and windscreen cowl (including removal of the windscreen). Total was about $2k but insurance took care of most of it.

Say what you will about maaco but their painters probably spray more cars then any other place.. If you took them quality materials, disassembled the car, and had primed and blocked the car properly yourself, you might get a good paint job... that being said my car was painted by maaco and it looks like serious shit years later and now is need of a full strip and repaint... so don't go to maaco! I didn't take it there either.. curse the asshole who did!

About to spend $2500 to have my car completely redone and painted. Sanded down to bare metal and every little ding fixed. Getting a base + clear coat.

It comes down to labor hours and labor rate. Material cost in most case is well under 1k for most paint systems according to most body/paint shops i asked and clerks at paint supply shops. Ive been thinking of crossing my car to get painted in mexico. heard a few great storys and work of various places. ex being resprays from dupont in mexico for $800 and those cars came out very well.
