it is the top of your front valence

to replace it, you'd need a whole new valence

That is part of your valance

Nose Panel, it is not "part of" the front valance in all reality. The lower valance and nose panel are 2 seperate metal stampings. They are then tack welded together behind the bumper.

Sadly it cannot be purchased seperately, only as a complete valance.

        Brand new OEM is ~$230.

mine has a little rust (not too major...looks like its only surface rust). would it be recoverable if it was sanded/grinded down then repainted?
          thats the spot....

Since the lower part of the valance looks to be in good shape, I'd go ahead and repair the rusted spot, and have the valance repainted as Jordan mentioned it $230 for a new one plus paint.

Early e30's and some others came with 2 piece front valences where that upper piece is seperate - part number 41331884353.

This won't be a bolt on though since you'll need to drill out the welds to remove this upper part from you lower valence. That rust doesn't look too bad though; I'm sure its repairable.

Even if it was rusted all the way through, a shop would be able to repair that little spot. Unless its spread bad behind the bumper where you can't see it, you might want to just replace the valance then.

i'm getting the body redone and repainted after next winter, so hopefully i can do a temp fix for this year so it doesn't get worse.

Or if he was willing to go aftermarket with just the filler piece $25 and change

                            But again; I wouldn't bother - that's definitely fixable.
