I find this interesting on several levels:

1. The kit is pure rice. Fibreglass? Puh-lease. What happened to quality Euro kits being made from ABS plastics? I don't like the GTR kit on E46s and I especially don't like the overly rotund curves on the boxy E30. To me, there is no cohesion. You lose all subtlety, you lose the balance of the original E30 design. It will fit in perfectly at Hot Import Nights.

2. All that fibreglass on hard-wearing parts is going to crack when you start going to the track. Seen it before plenty of times on other cars that can generate decent amounts of lateral-grip. Additional to that, its going to be pretty damn heavy, whereas getting it all made in ABS plastic or FRP (fibre-reinforced plastic) would constitute massive weight savings.

3. 285 tyres? Surely you jest! Why keep going wider and wider? Why not just upgrade the smaller tyres to R-compounds or semi-slicks for track work? Or start running more hardcore suspension... coilovers with outboard dampers? Stiffer sway bars? Integrated roll cage?

4. You're keeping the 192rwhp M20 with that set-up? 285s and widebody on a FI/hard-tune S50/S54 powered E30, fo sho, but otherwise it seems to be putting a cutting edge, late model-style aesthetics on an old school engine...

That's my opinion. I can't understand why you'd go through all that, but have fun spending time and money on your car.

BTW.. If the E30 is a car you plan on keeping for a long long time I say go for it but you should seriously look into entering some nice car shows and try to make some prize money off your car. You've earned it IMHO. Half the people who are so critical of this are still sporting aluminum diving boards. Considering what you've accomplished so far I think you could pull this off with class.

It sounds like a great plan, but why not start with a different e30? You have built a beautiful car, why tear it to pieces and rebuild it when you could get a clean chasis for so cheap? Especially if you are going to put a different motor in there.

The man has a point. Work on another chassis... if it ends with a bastardized look, a ricer will buy it and your e30 will still remain.

I think the reason he is using fiberglass is because he clearly has skills with manipulating it, where as he may not be a good metal worker (metal work is fucking hard). Jordan if I am wrong feel free to correct me.

My biggest beef with widebody e30s is how the rear fenders meet up with the body, always looks weird to me, and too much bondo (I know you won't use more than nesscerray).

Are you doing step by step pics of the process again?

Lets just hope this doesn't turn out like Behmers car, looked alright in renders, final was plop.
