    I've used 3M adhesive remover to remove the glue residue with great results. Even a quick application of acetone will do it.
    If you are removing this from the typical clear-coated 25-year old E30 you will probably find the paint or clear has faded around the badging, and its original position will be obvious.

      I have taken badges of three cars. just used a putty knife to get as much off as possible then used terpentine or something to get the goo off and then polished it and it was nice. the paint was a little different but not bad
