De-badging

I have taken badges of three cars. just used a putty knife to get as much off as possible then used terpentine or something to get the goo off and then polished it and it was nice. the paint was a little different but not bad -
I've used 3M adhesive remover to remove the glue residue with great results. Even a quick application of acetone will do it.
If you are removing this from the typical clear-coated 25-year old E30 you will probably find the paint or clear has faded around the badging, and its original position will be obvious.Leave a comment:

I still can't get the damned residue off mine so I look like a 'tard driving around with some stupid half "318is" on there. Any idea's? I've tried goo-off, goo-gone, screwdriver with a towel over the end, bug and tar remover, wd-40... all to no avail. Nothing else I can really think of. Any idea's?

I used a heatgun (hairdryer would work) and just slid some dental floss under it.
Goo gone and clay bar, then wax.Leave a comment:

all i needed was the floss and the credit card. turned out nice though. oh and polished.Leave a comment:

Make sure you do it when its hot outside and use fishing line and slide it underneath the emblem and use a "sawing" motion, move the car out of direct heat and then use bug and tree sap remover and follow with a cleaner wax and polish wax.Leave a comment:

you can use fishing line to slice under the badge as well. then follow the goo-gone and polish advice as said above.Leave a comment:

Just slide dental floss under the numbers. I used a credit card to take off the foam then goo-gone to get off any residue. Make sure to add some wax after this process.
The paint should be mint under there.

All you need:
1. Heavy duty dental floss (so it doesn't break)
2. Remove any excess adhesive if you did a crappy job with the floss and clean area
3. Polish AreaLeave a comment:

hmm, thats unfortunate. I was possibly going to throw e30 on in place of the 325. Ill see what others have to say about this, i dont like 325i on the trunk lid. Rather nothing at all.Leave a comment:
