    Rear apron options

    Hi All,

I have an early model 1987 e30 convertible with US spec metal bumpers. I've been looking for a rear apron, but haven't had much luck finding something that will fit. I see the MTech apron requires the Euro metal bumper, for example.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what apron I could fit on my car, and where I could buy it?

Attached is a pic of my car as it is today. I'm going to spray and tuck the bumpers, and also replace the license plate holder with the rubber strip insert.

    Thanks for the help,
    Dave

Not many options, and the ones that are out there are mostly fiberglass. for rear apron options you really need either plastic bumpers or euro bumpers.

Ouch, really?? This may alter my plans of tucking the bumpers. I thought that with a convertible rear bumper there were more apron options for some reason.

i wouldn't lose faith, many people have retrofitted different aprons on. most common is the late model apron which you need to weld on to early models. its not impossible, but as far as just screw on options.... yea your sol unless your really good at finding rare parts or your fine with running aftermarket modern fiberglass replicas (ive seen some horrible fitting ones and some great fitting ones but thats usually after modification)

you can go to a junk yard and have a late apron cut out and after removing the pieces that you wouldnt use, just scew it to you apron and apply some ruberized paint...

i recently do that to mine and is just like if you would weld it on...

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd also be up for getting a fiberglass mold if I have to. Any good fitting options there?
I read that the Racing Dynamics rear apron will fit both the early mode US spec metal and late model US spec plastic bumpers, but I cannot find that for sale anywhere.

because you are talking about rare expensive 27 year old plastic parts, of course you cant just find it for sale.

gotta keep your eyes open for 80's tuner body kits like zender, racing dynamic, or bbs. they are hard to find but always have aprons and most made us bumper versions too.

I've never owned an early model, yet I have an AC schnitzer rear apron for metal bumpers. Needs to be repaired though....

I swapped the plastic bumper on my e30 and the lack of the rear apron threw the look off. I bought a hartge replica rear apron from a fellow forum member. Fitment isn't perfect but it's doing its job. The best thing you can do is cut and weld off a later model. I plan on doing that once I build up funds again.
