Doing antenna delete the right way???

Just wondering what R3v thinks the best way to do an antenna delete the right way would be? I was thinking cut and weld some sheet metal to patch the hole and then smooth it out with body filler. Is this a good idea? I just think the plastic caps are tacky.

I've always patched it with metal, ground the welds down, then used as little filler as possible.

That's what I plan in doing. The car is getting repainted so I'm not worried about paint at all.

I always though that since there is that little "tang" right in the way under there that I would use a small chunk of fender from a wrecked E30.
