Older Aluminum Bumper on Newer Body?

Would it be possible, such as a direct swap, to use the older aluminum bumper system from a 1984 325i to a 1991 325iX?

    Comments or opinions?

    Thank You

    Joseph

My comment is that I'm fascinated to see a question about a reverse bumper swap. Kudos to you. My opinion is it would be a very bad idea. The bumpers wouldn't fit the valances on the car because they're thicker than the plastic bumpers, so you would have to replace the front valance, modify the rear one, and then it would theoretically work.

It can be done as the swap was performed on the vert that I now own.

You can see what is needed in the original build thread here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=110094

LOL WUT? This is what the 88's have. late model valances with metal bumpers. There is one around here that someone put the euro bumpers on and it looks sweet.

Good point! I was under the impression the '88 bumpers were different than the earlier ones, though. Is it just the shorter shocks?

Big bumpers on an iX makes sense to me, for bashing around in the snow!! An '88 iX sedan is on my want list. They made verts with big bumpers into the 90's, maybe those parts can fit better than early parts?

Vert's with euro bumpers look super clean. I wouldn't go plastic to US DB's personally

Early metal bumpers and the ones on the 88's are the same size, only reason the early ones stick out so far is because of the longer shocks used on them.

I have a bumper from a '86 on my 88 seta and its exactly the same as the original (just not bent and its polished).

How can it look sweet with gaps under the bumpers?
