How To Remove Trim Around Windows?

The chrome or Shadowline trim that goes around your windows --- how do you remove that?

Pull it up? Put the window down, and push it in towards the middle of the door?

Does it snap into place? Just press on?

Trying to take some off an old car, to put on a different car --- so don't want to damage it.

    Thanks guys!

you have to remove the gasket first, then there are a bunch of clips that have to be pryed on with a screwdriver. I believe the write up by Jordan is still in the tech section, on the front page of this site http://www.r3vlimited.com/Tech/Windowtrim.htm

Since his problem was solved so quickly, can anyone tell me where I can buy the trim online? Mine is all bent or cracked in places and I can't seem to find anywhere to get some new stuff. Bavauto, Ebay, and a few other places have come up empty.

I have an 87 325 2-door, and I'd like to buy the black trim, but even the chrome would work.

Edit: Didn't realize the thread was so old, sorry!

I'd guess you'd have to try a dealership.

Look up the part numbers at www.realoem.com --- and go from there.

If you do go that route, let us know what they cost!!!

I'd also try calling BavAuto. They carry some stuff they don't mention on their website, and they *might* have better prices than the dealer, but probably not by much.

How much did that cost, Erik? I think I'd rather order a set than dork around w/ trying to pry 'em out of a car and risk damaging them.

I ended up not ordering, but the prices are burried somewhere in my emails.

Keep in mind though, just because you buy new trim doesn't mean that you don't have to learn how to remove it. If you don't know what you are doing, you even risk damaging the new peices.

Just read Jordan's write-up that was linked to earlier.
I replaced ALL of the trim on my GF's e30, and the trim around the windows/doors wasn't that bad.

If you come across the total, please post it up --- I'd be interested to see what it was going to cost!

I have removed all the trim along the top of the car before --- it's the piece along the bottom of the rear window on a coupe that I can't figure out at the moment --- having trouble visualizing it, even w/ Jordan's write-up. I'll have to print that up and take it to the 'yard w/ me.
