Well, I am starting to work on my project again, and before the m30 goes in I decided to take care of the bodywork. Last fall, moving it around the yard I rearended the BMW with my Jeep. Needless to say, the rear license plate area was destroyed. Well, to fix it, rather than doing it the regular way, I got my hands on the whole back end of a 91. The pics show it right now. I need to still grind down all the welds, and fill and finish the area, but its on. I need to cut and weld the lower valence section after, but for now thought I would post a few pics. In the second pic the rear looks tilted down, but its actually not :) Before everyone flames me lol. A lot of work, but its def worth it for my 325iS.

that definately is not straight. use the trunk lid and body lines as guides and you can see. you said its not but i dont know how a picture would affect linear straight lines.

Well, that side isnt perfectly straight, but thats why I have a mig welder, grinder, and plenty of fiberglass filler. It was most important to me to line up the jams.... since I know I can make the contour lines easy enough with a little work. I can fab almost anything from metal, so to me this isnt too hard.
One thing, tho, on the 88-91 rears, the lines DO NOT match up perfect to the 83-87's. Almost, but you can tell that its a little off. Hence, I need to do a little custom work to make it right.
And thank you, I do have balls to try this. The way I look at it, there are plenty of other people doing much more difficult custom work, such as chopping roofs, etc, (not to e30s obviously) so this isnt too hard. I will post more pics with progress, and its actually easier than you think.01 325Ci

I did some more work on it today, and I can tell you that Mar glass is the best material for this work. I have most of the top portion sanded smooth and blended into the body. It is actually going easier than originally expected. This is something that anybody with a little welding can do. Its really more just filling and sanding to make everything smooth and to hide the lines. I'll post some better pics when I get a little more done.01 325Ci

That pannenger side has a pretty bad tilt to it, ouch.Comment

It really dosent have really any noticable tilt to it now..... the trunk lid was partially open in that pic so it makes it look like that.... In person, you cant notice any tilt whatsoever now. Believe me, if I didnt know what I was doing, I wouldnt have attempted it. All I did was repair it like a body shop would, cut out the panel and weld in a new one.01 325Ci
