88 325e --> Plastic bumpers: Do I need the shorter bumper shocks?

I am planning to replace my DBs with plastic bumpers and I would like to know if I really need the shorter shocks from the later years.
I am reading that the plastic bumpers are just a bolt on ( with the front and rear brackets ). Just need to confirm that I really need the bumper shocks also.

While 88 bumper shocks are shorter than previous year model cars, they aren't the same shocks as plastic bumper cars. So yes, you need them.
