    Bumper rust

Noticed an area of rust on my lower bumper and today explored it a little:

I was going to sand down the rear valance and paint it hence the appearance.

The bumper is a total loss, correct?

It at the site of a bondo-repair job by the previous owner.

Am I correct that this is something that may spread to the subframe and rest of body, and needs replacement of the whole bumper?

The other option would be to explore it more, put some rust converter on it, cover it with an Mtech II bumper or something but I think that would hide the issue and result in the rust spreading elsewhere.

Other than a small spot on the inside of the sunroof that is the only rust spot I know of on the car.

    Nothing is impossible to fix.

Cut out a nice rectangle, Weld in a new bit. Bit of bog to smooth it. That's the proper fix.

The poor man's fix is cut it out. Apply fibreglass to both sides, big and paint.

The lazy mans fix (guilty) is hit it with a flapper wheel attack with rust conveyor. Paint all exposed edges and put gaff tape on both sides. Then come back in 1-2yrs and try again witb one of the above two methods.

First, that's the valence, not the bumper.

Second, that's a fairly small hole. Proper way to fix it would be to cut out he bad metal and weld in new. Don't even bother with fiberglass. It will only make things worse later when you WILL have to fix it properly.
