    My E30 is Rotting

I have been poking around and have found an increadible amount of major rust in all the common areas:

    Passenger side floor pan
Drivers side front strut tower seam
    Rear battery tray
    rear valence Tow hook area

I'm not talking surface rust either, I'm talking major cancer. I poked with a screw driver and it went right through. I made a hole with the screw driver in the front passager floor pan the size of a soft ball...

I took it to a local body shop and they said it would be aprox $400-600 but it was too hard for them to estimate. They said they would have to charge by the hour ($40). That doesn't cover the paint.

Sigh, I don't know what to do. Damned New England salt and moisture.

The problem with that is I would have to ship it across country. That's an extra $1000 or so.

Do you really think I should start over with a new chassis?

at 40 an hour, it will turn into a 3000 dollar job, and it will still have "hidden" rust all over it.
face the music, time to find a new chassis.

God damn it, you're probably right.

Maybe it's time to step up to an E36 M3???

But yes, I believe an E36 M3 is a step up from my E30 325i.

yea and in numbers they are a huge step up but my words still remain.

This thread made me look under my car just now and there is a small rot spot under the pass front seat. Not a big deal, I will fix later this winter. Sucks to hear about your car though. This may be the perfect time to upgrade to a nicer e30.

I talked to a friend of the family last night who can weld and has helped others with past auto renovations. He took a look and said he could help me weld in some plates for most of the spots. I'll prob. get the strut tower seam done professionally though. I'm going to try to fix my poor E30. I love it too much to let it go just yet.

                              Oh trust me, it's bad.

But I'm going to weld it up with my friend as much as we can and then I'm going to drive this bad boy into the ground.
