This summer, POR15 the shit out of it, paint it, then drive it for 3 more years.

Then, buy an Exige and make the E30 be a winter beater.

    Yeah, thats the ticket!

West Coasters arent immune. Or should I say NW cars? I am putting floor pans in my 84. The moisture here coupled with the occasional leak rotted the Driver's side pan most the way through from the inside. Relatively easy fix for me. there is a really no other cancer to speak of.

I guess my point is to thoroughly check whatever you get no matter where its from. Get a bare shell if you can, or look under those carpets.

I'm going to drive it until it falls apart. Then I'll get another one.

Trust me on this. It's the rust you can't see that will cost you big bucks to fix. You don't need to go all the way to the west coast. There are E30's in the south that are rust free.
My car had 259,000 miles on it when I bought it. The original exhaust bolts came off no problem! Car was sold new in Alabama and owned in Tennesee.
Problem is whatever you find and take home will rust up there. Keep the one you have for the winter and find a really cherry one for the other 3 months of the year!

Try living in the UK, Loads of rain, salt on the roads, and generally shocking road conditions mean our cars are 90% rust unless you find a really good one!

anything is fixable, well almost anything. But as long as it not structural rust I dont see any issues, yeah the strut towers rusted. But if it tears out of later 3's and they can fix that then rust shouldnt be that big of a deal.

It always amazes me how quick people dump rusty e30's, due to availability of cheep clean chaises, I almost did the same with mine. But I had a hard time finding a cheep one to use my drivetrain in, they were ether perfect or worse than mine. So I resorted to welding mine, definitely use por-15, a quality truck bed liner makes a great undercoating and avoid rubberized undercoating like the plague. If done correctly you will end up with a car that’s more resistant to rust than the original. Best of luck

True that. My car will see this as my car has nothing under it.
