Well i let it dry over night, got up and wet sanded it and buffed part of it out. It looked fine from 15' away but the closer you got to it it looked like shit, even if it was black. So i'm going to strip it down and spray bomb it. Like i said the hood was peeling bad so no harm lost.

Like I've said before, all you really have to do with a job like this is do it right, and take your time. Those 2 eight-sixes look really good.

Sanding between layers is important, if you wait till the end you end up sanding through layers in the high spots, and it'll never look even.

I did my run to Home Depot today. I found quite a few colors.
Hunter Green, Safety Red... are among my favorites. If only Handicap Blue came in Oil based, and not Latex (for parking lots) They also had a little book with all the colors they could mix with the Masstone. I'm seriously doing it. I just have to pick a color. I want a color that equates pretty closely to Mauritius Blau Metallic, but I guess I would have to go to Paintscratch to get a perfect match. For $50-100, I'm willing to settle.
                This is Navy, I think.

Well, I ended up going to home depot today and bought all my shit $140 worth

                  4" high density foam rollers
                  Blue painters tape
1 gallon high gloss white rustoleum
4 cans of high gloss white rusteum spray (for hard to reach places)
                  dropcloth
                  fiberglass bondo for body work
                  400/600/1000/1500/2000 grit sandpaper
Bucket with measuring lines for proper ratio
1 gal mineral spirits ordorless (i could not find the odor kind)
a pint size of rustoleum flat black
a spray can of rustoleum primer
                  4" roller pans

And i'm going to try another thing....
MINWAX 1/2 pint of clear gloss oil based clear coat.......i'm going to try it on a panel and see if it looks better than non clear coat... we'll see

How the hell did you spend $140 on that?

The paint here is about $25/gallon! Paper, tape, rollers, etc. should be about $40...life must be expensive in NY!

Try reading through the whole thread... You use Rustoleum (which is generally used for just about anything). Tractors, metal parts, outdoor furniture, etc.

Yeah, rustoleum is really tough paint. really durable. I'm trying to take it one step further and use an oil based clear coat in the same fashion as the paint.....

                                I'll keep you updated.

Question: is it best to do this kind of thing in the cold? or the warmth? i know that moisture is an issue, but the fact that you are painting cold metal. What effect does that have on the overall look/feel/ bla bla bla?
