I'm looking at a couple different types of bc/cc. I'm trying to keep the prices low, under $150 (gallon) if possible for clear, a little more for the zinno basecoat if necessary.

What is a good popular high quality bas coat/clear coat system in this price range? How many coats will 1 gallon of clear provide on a coupe?

    Thanks

Iv anly used Dupont, so thats what Ill put as my choice. It may be a bit pricyer than what your talking. I think a quart of my Lachssilber was like $60 or something, but I bought a bunch of other stuff with it, so Im not exactly sure on the price, only the total for all the stuff.

I have only used DuPont as well - PPG is what most people use in my area.

Well you get what you pay for, remember that. I am PPG guy my self but Dupont is good too. As far a cheaper goes I know a few people that use Sherwin Willams its supposed to be decent but I have yet to see anything I am impressed with.

How is PPG Omni? That seems like the most economical for me. I dont know why but everyone I've called so far either doesnt have Zinnboberrot in their system or have quoted me some $300-400 for a gallon of basecoat. Sheesh!

That is how much it costs... I use and the shop I work at uses Dupont Chromasystem. I really like it. My car in my sig is painted with it. Chromabase Delphin base and Chromaclear 7900 on the majority of the car and 7600 on the spoiler, bumpers and front valance since it was just a small area, I wanted the faster flash time.

Omni is really really cheap quality. I have seen many cars come in that were painted with that garbage with the clear lifting everywhere.

I cant imagine Omni costing $400 gallon....

The main reason I started this thread is to see what people are using and to post what they paid for their paint.

I feel like I'm getting raked over the coals when I go into English Color like a "noob" and dont know what I want but I "want it to match this color". I just want a decent system but am trying to avoid $800 for paint. I talk to people all the time with decent paint on their cars and they tell me they paid $400 for basecoat and clear.

                Hopefully I making any sense?

BTW I'm not taking shortcuts on prep, its taking almost a month to get it ready for paint.

PPG code for cinnabar is 138

Yes and I think I paid around 500ish for just the base clear with my shop discount...Keep in mind that red pigment is really expensive.

When you say base clear do you mean $500 for the base coat and the clear coat together? Thats not too bad if thats the case... I need a shop discount!

What about Dupont Nason? Again, I'm not going for show quality... Thanks

I am talking about both of them and activators/reducers. I used some sealer from work. Nason is lower quality. If you are looking to save some money using chromabase base coat and Nason Clear is alright. The nason clear lays out pretty smooth, I don't think it will last as long, but you shouldn't have any clear coat flaking or rapid deterioration at all.

red / orange are the most expensive pigments there are. IF you want cheap, choose a different color.
