What prep work should I do on a bumper and a door?

I've got a bumper and door I'm going to need to repaint in a diffterent color. Both of them have orig paint on them - should I just lightly sand the orig paint and bring it all to the paint shop and let them go at it? I don't want to be one of those people driving down the street with black paint peeling off my red bumper in sheets.

scuff it up. you don't want to take it all off (unless it's really bad and peeling), the existing paint will act as the primer.

Alot of the time if the paint is fine that we are painting on, we wet sand it with 400 or use grey scotch brite with some prep and blend (kinda gritty soap). This cleans and scuffs really well.
