The one I am looking at is a random orbital sander. I was just curious if the speeds I mentioned would be fast enough to work the paint.

I also saw a ryobi that looked good...but I dont remember the specs. What model # is the porter cable?

    Thx for the tips.

Ive been following this thread ever since it started 3yrs or so on moparts.com This guy with a 69 charger was the first one and im sure if you search on moparts.com you'll find it. I believe the thread name was paint job on a budget. It has been saved in their archives and there are hundreds of pages with pics and results. Guys also started using cheapo $30 plug in spray guns and thinning their paint with mineral spirits.
The most common paint used was tremclad a canadian version of rustolium but i believe there is a comparible version of the rustolium availible here in the states.

            heres the original thread

Orbital sanders are a no-no. You want something that goes back and forth not around or erratically. They have special paint prep sanders you should look into.

I did the paint roller myself and it worked out fairly well for the amount of time I put into it. If you need a place to host it, you can use my website.

                Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

                    Guys,

I've decided to publish a roller paint job writeup. It will be rather comprehensive with how-to's, step/by/step, spreadsheets, pictures, graphics...etc.

It will be a *.pdf writeup and will be available by the end of this month. It will include parts used, paint identified, bodywork...etc.

It will be in CD format and can be available for purchase for $10 and can be paid via paypal (see signature).

I'll publish this before the end of the month.

                    Thanks!

                    Frank

I'm in. I've read the absolutely massive forum threads at MoParts, and wading through all the conflicting static is mind-numbing. I'd gladly pay $10 to get an E30-specific write-up, especially with long-term results documented.

I have a gallon of Pettit Easypoxy sitting in my parts closet, waiting for me to work up the guts to do this.

Any idea how or if this would work with a flat black paint?
