I'm just scuffing up the surface of the clear coat enough for the paint to stick to it. Where the clear coat is peeled off, cracked or just doesn't stick very well (the roof and trunk mostly) I fill in the cracks with primer. This way I have a flat enough surface for the paint to stick to.

First coat on the side of the car.

So far I have 1.2 quarts of paint on the car. I should have it done with 1.5 quarts.

Finally I have 2 coats on the sides of the car, 3rd coat should go on by later tonight. I'll take care of the area underneath the bumpers another time. I'm sort of in a time crunch right now.

Closeup of the brush marks. I'll sand those down before the third and final coat.

2 coats on the fender, 3 coats on the hood.

I rattle canned the bumpers to save time. The rustoleum isn't a perfect match but it'll have to do for now.

99 cent flat black rattle can goes a long way on the trim.

Wow, very impressed. Reminds me so much of my paintjob! you're doing an excellent job and i'm very impressed.

I'm glad you went with white. A darker color would show alot more imperfections (no offense, it's the way it is)

Great job and very impressed!! Can't wait to see it finished. Sanding and polishing that paint will really make it stand out.

Yeah white was definitely a good choice in that respect. It hides a lot of flaws really well right up to about one foot away. I wish I had more time to take care of every little detail but I have to get the car done (as in painted assembled and driven away) by tonight. I'll take care of the details in the next month or so before the final polishing. My neighbor came through with a random orbit polisher. I'll practice on my old sunroof before taking on the whole car.

Lookin good. I'll probably start this soon....probably be going with a light silver color....it should hide flaws quite well (I hope).

This paint seems to cover better than the rustoleum.

...and you have got a lot done in a short period. Makes me wanna do it even more!

edit....here is another good link for some roller paint info!

I haven't had a chance to get any work done lately but here's where it stands.

Im driving it around sporting some masking tape. I miss my bottle caps.

I still need to do another coat on the right rear quarter panel, all the areas underneath the bumpers, trim behind the rear windows, and reattach the rubber strip on the back doors. I'm trying to keep it parked out in the sun as much as possible before i begin polishing it.

Not bad at all. I think with some more detailed pictures and a finished product, it will be indistinguishable....

GHETTO!! I have seen a two tone (red and blue) brush on job though. I wouldn't exactly say doing it like this is the white way to do it but... It'll make a great car at 50ft though. I'll stick with my slight oxidation and dents here and there.

I think it's gonna turn out OK. It took me 2 months to do mine and you can't tell the difference. You really can't.

It all depends on how much time, effort, coats, sanding and detail you put into it....simple as that.....

                              Quick question.

I noticed you used mineral spirits to thin the paint down. Have there been any adverse reactions with the paint??? I was under the impression that this paint needed to be thinned with ketone.

I pretty much used mineral spirits for a couple reasons:

                                1. It's an oil based enamel paint thinner. The paint that i used was an oil based enamel paint.

                                2. The people who have done this before me and had writeups about it used mineral spirits.

I've had no adverse reactions to the paint. It has been holding up like a champ all summer, even to stone chips and bugs.
