its going to take a good amount of work. I suggest you sit in the car and watch the windows go up and down.

The other doors are frameless also? I think it would just be a lot louder, but do whatever you want.

edit: should have read the thread title. That will look like ass with the top down and windows down, and the frames still there.

I want to try this on my vert with a test door. I hear that the doors themselves are different...

It seems obvious that if you wanted to do this mod, you would remove (most) of the frame around the window. I would probably be concerned about the rear track of that window and how it aligns to the rear window. If that fits, I would think that you're golden.

I honestly think it would look much better.

[quote=E30 Cabrio;1068608]I'd like to mod my wing windows so they open on a hinge like the old school GM wing windows, or mod them to go down.

old post bump. That damn wing window bothers me too. I'd love to have it open up like an old vw bug. The glass would have to be drilled and hinges installed. Ive replaced them before on my XJ and super beetle. Anyone ever done this ??

Cosmetically it looks much less like a newer convertible where the small window is gone.
In reality it is a GREAT feat to have... It is the structure support for the a/b pillars. Ive thought about toying around with a coupe door as well but came to the conclusion there is most definately a reason why BMW engineers put the triangle window there. It is very stiff and if ever in a rollover that whole piece would be a valuable asset. Even with modifications where the window would roll down.. it would still have that metal frame surrounded by rubber there. Leave the cabrio the way an e30 cabrio should be =)

a couple issues are gonna happen.
1 a convertible window goes up much higher than the hard top windows does. so you will need to have custom made glass for the car.
2 that little triangle is there incase of rollover.
3 the mirrors are differently designed and the door gasket will need to be modded.
to do this right. i bet it will cost $1500 a door...
              Much wow

I use that window to keep the cherry from my joint from blowing away, I would love to have that little window on my M3 for the same reason!!!

All other issues aside, what the hell are you going to do about the window frame? I assume you want the top to seal right too. Sounds like a stupid idea to me just because you don't like the A pilar glass support.

the top seal is the window, that being said the roof line of a vert is much different and the windows are different. I think the roof is a bit lower than the coupe so the coupe window wouldnt work... all of this doesnt matter though cause no one is going to do this.

haha, exactly ...but if it were a vent window you could also flick your ashes out thru there too with the top up.
