    aftermarket hood

Was thinking about getting one due the to convenience of having it delivered to the painter. Has anyone had fitment issues? Opinions?

why not get a used OEM hood? I picked up a straight clean one for $50 last year.

I tried to fit an aftermarket (but still stock) bumper to a (non-bmw)car once - it was a nightmare. Talk to the painter. Chances are he can work with a junkyard hood, or can source his own. Then it's his fault if it fits like crap - not yours.

Sort of the same discussion going on here about fenders. I would assume the same would apply to hoods...

sometime you can get lucky with an aftermarket hood AND aftermarket fenders if you use all 3 together. mix and match, you usually have problems

The painter can source aftermarket hoods, but there is only one straight hood from an '83 318i amongst all the local junkyards, and I'd need someone to pick it up and deliver it for me since I live 2 hours away from the painter...

            I'll figure something out...

Does the junkyard have a delivery service?

              Many here do...

i just installed aftermarket hood and fenders, with an OEM nose peice and they all fit very good, the hood doesn't fit perfect, but then again my car has suffered front end damage, the fendersfit great, i got them for $30 a piece.

if your short on money go aftermarket

can you elaborate on where the fitment was poor on the hood? How much did it cost?

left side of hood has a slight bulge, the hood was 140ish

Yeah, from the pic it almost looks as though the left side (looking at it from the front) has less of a gap btw it an the fender than the right side. 140 huh? What was the source, and do they deliver to body shops?

are you at the end of your budget? I don't think an OEM hood is much more. the pics of his hood aren't very promising.
