    BMP rear valance

    BMP guys -

What am I missing to mount the rear BMP bumper? I bought this used and I'm obviously missing something. I'm guessing there's supposed to be an additional bracket that goes between the car and the square bracket glued to the bumper?

its hard to see with the photo you have. Whats the brackets on the back of the bumper look like?
I think they bolt to the stock bumper shocks for plastic bumper cars.

They're just rectangular spacer-brackets. The bumper attaches with a single bolt that when placed on the car line up with the center of the bumper shocks.

Do the '88-'91 bumper shocks attach to the bumper with a single bolt?

I have this kit on my '87 325is and I'm pretty sure you remove the rear bumper shocks and mount the square brackets directly to the body.

yes, i took it off my car. the piece bolts to the shock mount holes, and has a threaded speed nut and a bolt goes thru the valance and into the plate/nut.

Ahhh, I don't have those brackets. It looks like I'll be calling to plead with BMP.

            Thanks guys.

I measured the exhaust cutout last night and found that my UUC exhaust is going to be about 1/2" too tall to fit through the bumper cutout.

How do you guys think it would look if I cut our the section of bumper under the exhaust tips? I'm not by any means skilled at bodywork, but if the finished product doesn't look wierd, I think I could do it.

how about lower/re-aim the exhaust? have it cut and rewelded at a better/lower angle. i cant imagine a shop would charge more than $20 for something like that. then you're not destroying the bmp piece. you might even be able to just get longer hangers.

thats a fuckin ghetto and dangerous way to mount a bumper. Leave the reinforcement and shocks in place, it should slide over it, then you can add to screws behind the wheels.

I started to cut last night - so far, so good. I am trying to make the opening about 1/2" or so taller. I'll post pics of the process when I'm done.

Well I got the exhaust cutout enlarged. I took my time, and it looks pretty damn good!

I'm mocking the bumper in place now (I know, I'm slow, I've been busy). My main problem is that it appears to be maybe 1/2" too wide. When I pull the front ends of it to to the wheel arches, it's flexing the bumper, causing a slight "bulge" in the top part under the taillights, not to mention a huge gap on the sides. I'm thinking I might make a slight relief cut in the top of the back corners where the purple line points to, to help correct the bulge, then lots of bondo on the sides to fill the gap.

                        What do you guys think?

Honestly, it looks like shit!. Are you sure you have it mounted correctly? You should not have to cut relief spots anywhere. Are you sure it is a true BMP piece? Sounds sketchy at best.
