    My new OE windshield

I do like my glass guy. We made a glass claim on Alice (the 87 eta) and when he said he couldn't find an after marker one nearby I asked him to see if he could get an OE replace, net authorized since after all, she is a classic. They approved it including a new OE gasket which he didn't use since the one on the car was fine so he gave me that. Last month when he came to replace the windshield on our Touareg for the 2nd time, he mentioned that he still hadn't been paid for the e30.

today the insurance company sent me confirmation of the payout....get this...$985 !!!

Well, they were backordered last year, so good to see that they're back. Figure a gasket at 140, lock strip, maybe 40, labor at 150, so 500ish for glass, and the rest as markup? Seems reasonable, especially considering the quality difference between original and aftermarket available today.

i've been waiting a year for a factory windshield for my cabrio. gave up and installed my nicest used unit. better than a POS aftermarket glass.

here's a cost break down as of 1 Sept (all available, sans the cabrio specific windshield):
      glass was $475
      seal was $185
      lockstrip was $85
      lockstrip clip was $25

I didn't think the cabrio had a specific windshield ? Your numbers look to be about right.

i didn't, either, until my parts guy told me the coupe/sedan and cabrio windshields had a different part number. :/

You know as well as anyone that they could have different PNs and still be the same :)

I'd bet that the cabrio has a different tinted strip if anything.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure I have a coupe windscreen in my sedan.

Understand the differences between regular E30s and the convertible windscreen is the metal clip that's glued in place to mount the rear mirror.
Apart from that windscreens are the same.

Unless you have a bonded E30 M3 windscreen.

Right...the little metal disc. What a PITA. I must have glued mine back at least 4-5 X. It's obscene what they charge for a dab of windshield glue esp when it doesn't work lol. I had the glass guys stick it on my cabrio when they were replacing the windshield in the coupe.
