Would euro bumper fit on a 1988 model?

I know the euro chrome bumpers are bolt on replacements to early models but since the 88's have the facelift lower valence, I'm just worried that fitment might be an issue. Anyone have an idea whether the swap will leave a gap between the euro bumper and the lower valence (check pic below) because from pictures, the euro bumpers look a lot skinnier than the diving boards.

It's been done but doesn't look right. 88 is first year of the facelift, so plastic bumpers or M tech 2 kit would be the typical upgrades.
