Best tape to use to prevent rock chips?

I'm moving to Fort Worth on Thursday of this week and don't want to get any new rock chips, and per Matt's adive (e30Matt), I'm going to tape up the front and mirrors. He suggested low tack masking tape, but I've also seen blue painters tape be used before. Any other suggestions? I'll probably get the tape tomorrow.

Not real sure on the tape type, but I would think you would be fine with the blue stuff with multiple layers. And just wanted to say welcome to DFW, maybe we could put together some sort of a DFW meet sometime.

Blue painter's tape is generally the best to use. It's cheap, is fairly thick, and comes off easily. All the avid auto-xers I've ever talked to have reccomended it.

how did it hold up? there was a guy with an e46 m3 cab that drove down with us from bay area to Bimmer Fest who put saran wrap leaving all the cooling vents unblocked, and the saran wrap was flying off left and rite all over hte place. it was hilarious, i thought he would get pulled over for littering for sure...

it works fine if you tape it properly. also the team cut vents out for the cooling systems so i saw no problem.

The blue painters tape is low tack masking tape. It comes in green too.

Yeah I realized that the Blue Masking tape was the Low Tack stuff when I went and bought some. Going to clean the entire car later today and tape it Thursday, I'll get some pics of it all taped up.
