Take off the bumper and see what's going on with the black slides that go behind the sidemarkers. That's where you adjust to fit.

Yes, then evenly with both hands wide, pull hard. You won't break anything, just pull.

Edit: The sidemarker lights will still be connected and only have about 4 inches of wire-slack to the bumper so be careful not to rip those as you pull, lol.

am I looking for placement of the slides or is this a shock issue?

double check fitment of fender(s) and valance and tweak if needed, then adjust the brackets accordingly (if needed). ak mentioned the location of the brackets

the slides wont go back any farther. I think its the shroudwhere the shocks go into I took it off yesterday and they stick out pretty far, Do i need to cut/weld?

Wait a minute. 88 cars came with diving boards, not plastic bumpers. Has yours been converted?

If so, I wonder if you have the wrong bumper shocks? I think early model compared to late model were different length.

If you didn't change bumper shocks, that would definitely cause them to stick out like that. I bet NitroRustlerDriver hit the nail on the head, personally.

so late bumper shocks will fix this because the slides are in the right spot.

This is an issue on the passenger side of my '90... it has nothing to do with the side alignment tabs, as they only correct for up/down.

Valence/fenders/hood/rad support all align perfectly, so its not that. It bothers me every time I get close to the car.

Maybe drill and tuck the shocks you have if you don't wanna track down/buy new ones?
