The OEM one has a flap that folds out and rests under the tonneau cover. It looks like this:
I can't figure out what the one you have does from the pictures on their site.
Also, the mesh is replaceable on the OEM one. Does it appear to be for the one you have?
How does it mount? Will it muck up the panels in any way?
The OEM one will eventually destroy the panels eventually. I noticed some issues with fitment and was extremely careful over the years but eventually my panels tore.
The OEM one has spring loaded hooks that slide out and latch under the slits for the seat belts. I'm actually upset at BMW for how this part was designed because they used non-flat topped screws for the assembly and covered them with felt. These finally tore both sides of my rear panels about two weeks ago.
I believe if BMW, or I, had used flat-headed screws instead of round-headed screws this wouldn't have happened.
I'll be changing them this weekend and see how it works. The e36 has plastic by the panels to protect against this. One could probably do something similar in an e30.
How does this one latch in behind the driver and passenger seats?
The OEM one comes with a bag (as shown in the pictures) but I do not know if this one does.
The OEM one I have is as good and in some ways better than the soft top.
For anyone on the fence, these are a must if long-haired females are in the car either driving or riding in the front. You can only carry a third passenger if they lay down flat across the rear seat :) If you have or know someone with long hair you know how it whips around at high speeds even with the windows up.
With this type of screen, you can roll the windows up and the ride is as quiet as having the top up, near windless (you can place a piece of paper on your lap on the freeway, for example), and can even ride around a climate like San Diego/Orange County late at night without the top up and a female passenger wouldn't really notice the temperature even without a coat.
I paid around $460 dollars for mine at the dealer nearly ten years ago, without taxes, and would easily rank this among the top investments for my cabrio only rivaled by the hard top. If I had to rank what I would purchase first, I would say the windscreen and then the hard top.
It has a rod on each side that slides in where the seat belts are and them it has a flat piece of metal on each side that goes under the cover for the top. Its really well made and well worth the money. Id rather spend 90.00 all day compared to 460.00.
I would snap a few pics, but my car is currently ripped apart for paint.
Smooth, you say it's an oem screen. Not second guessing you but just to be sure, does it have a oem number on it and made by BMW or was it made by someone else for BMW...such as the husco armrest? Not bustin chops, just wondering.

I bought it at the BMW dealership. The numbers I can find on it are:
On the bottom of that plastic flap I took a picture this morning: BMW 8212 9401216 18131310
and 0902.0011.030
on the underside of the plastic piece that holds the spring loaded hook I described:
0902.0011.011 (driver side)
0902.0011.012 (passenger side)
oh, mine also has a support bar that runs perpendicular to the main bars that hold the screen.
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!
