    Front Plate Mount Question

Unfortunately Virginia requires you to mount a front license plate. The front bumper on my recently acquired mtech cabrio does not seem to have anything to screw the plate bracket into. There are 2 large holes in the mtech bumper where the plate bracket looks like it would mount, but it is missing some sort of insert or backing that it would screw into. I've looked on realoem and I don't see a part that fits the bill.

Anyone have an idea? Alternately I guess I could remove the front bumper and bolt it through, but was trying to avoid that if I could.

LOL I would, but they look for any excuse to pull you over. They even set up checkpoints at the 4-way stop near my office to write tickets for expired plates and safety inspections.

i would use a towhook mounted plate holder, companies like turner sell them for like 100 bucks or so. or you could make one like this dude http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1777564

Not a huge fan of the tow hook mounts. I already have that bracket, just trying to figure out how to actually screw it into the front bumper. Looking at realoem some more, it looks like #15 in the diagram might be what I need. I'm going to get a couple and try them out.

I used one of these for my X3 so I didn't have to drill into the bumper (well I did drill holes, but they go on the underside and are not seen if removed).

The E30 is not listed on his models, but I bet if you measure where you want to install it, he can provide you with a bracket of the appropriate size.

Now that's an interesting bracket. Might have to look into one of those if those if I can't get the OEM mount to work.

Most cars have the bracket that adjusts the screw holes to match the plate.

You can find them at some auto parts stores or even better yet your local junk yard.
