Shadow Line trim? Which models?

Hi I notice that many of the 1991 318i/is cars have black around the windows instead of the usual chrome. Did all 318's come w "shadow line" trim as a cost cutting measure or was it an option?

Which other e30 models offered this trim?

The 318iS and M3 were the only cars that came with factory shadowline.

wow, I guess those I've seen on 318i must have been fitted post build. Is it a common mod? Do people just paint them? Is it a satin black or gloss black?

People do it all of the time. Some swap the OEM shadowline on to their cars but most paint it with SEM or Duplicolor trim paint. It's a matte/satin finish.
