E30 coupe an cabrio same chassis

Hi there I am wanting to buy a cabrio in another city but I am not sure if I fit.

I sat in an E30 2 door coupe and that was fine. My kid would ride in the back on occasion too. Is that a pretty good indication of the same interior room in the cabriolet?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeremy Marten

Well, it depends if the coupe had sports seats in it. Also the rear seat isn't the same it has basically a divider down the middle.

Hi Steven thanks for the reply. The coupe I sat it did not have sport seats. Most of the convertibles I am thinking of do have them.

So am I correct in saying the chassis is the same, but the sport seats take up a bit more space? Anyone have a guess and to how much thicker the seatbacks, etc.

      Thanks in advance,

      Jeremy

So the basic body/chassis is the same in coupe and E30 convertible?

        Thanks in advance,

        Jeremy

They have their differences, but as far as driver seating position goes, they should be the same. It's behind the doors where the cabrio begins to really differ.

Thank-you Holland.. Would rear seat placement be the same as well?

            Thanks in advance,

I drive my convertible with 3 kids most of the time. 7 year old up front next to me and two 4 year olds in the back seat all nice and comfy.

They are very different inside IMO.

Cabbies are much narrower inside, and tighter in the footwells, due to the extra reinforcements in the rockers.

I didn't think it fit me very well, and I am 5'10" and a stocky, broad shouldered 210lb.

The cabrios all have sport seats and all sport seats have the same physical dimensions. However the Cabrio seat rails have a longer stop plate on the bottom that limits their fore and aft movement. The good news is that it's held on with one screw per side so can be shortened to allow more seat movement

Ok, good stuff people! I have booked an inspection with Blizkreig in Vancouver, if all goes well I will go over and buy it!

That's great, thanks for the input everyone,

Hey Todd, I don't think they have seen it before, he has been using a BMW certified mechanic at another shop. They will see it for an inspection soon though.

If all goes well I will post pics next week, Jeremy.

Oh, and thanks for all the information. It helps to get some opinions from others when I can't lay eyes on the car myself.

                          All the best, JerVic
