Trying to fix my Hood and Ive come across a little problem..

    Hey Guys!

My 84 318i currently has an issue where the hood wont close ! Pretty sure its just the latch not catching and locking, so I was gonna take it out and clean or replace. Problem is , Ive got the grille off but i cant get the headlight assembly off.. The screws are literally rusted shut and wont budge, tried spraying some WD40 didnt do anything.

Is there any other way I can go about removing the exterior hood latch ?

    Thanks

WD40 isn't gonna do anything to loosen them up. Try PB blaster for starters. I've had some success hammering on the screwdriver (if it's a screw) while slowly trying to turn it as well.

    How bad is it?

pretty sure the headlight screws are just threaded into speed nut things like this:

so getting them out shouldn't be all that tough. and if it really is then drilling them out and replacing is easy cheese.

ps i had issues with my hood not closing, turns out that the return spring on the release lever inside the car was gone so i had to manually push the lever back to the original spot to let the latch catch. not sure if you've looked into that yet

One trick I've learned to removed seized screws is to ever so slightly tighten the screw to break the threads loose. Make sure to put enough force on the back of the driver so the tip doesn't slip and bugger up your screw heads.

buy an impact driver. probably $20 from autozone. they come in handy for all stuck screws and bolts. it will come with the #2 and #3 phillips that you will need also

Hey, I'm in Savannah this weekend for a vintage race on Hutchinson Island! You should stop by!

Seriously though, soak the screws in aluminum cutting fluid and let them sit for a few minutes. Better than any penetrating oil I've tried.
