How supportive is the front plastic bumper reinforcement?

    I don't care about terminology, Jordan. :P

So I bent a little shit back on my 88+ valence today and started getting it ready for paint. I fit the bumper (skin - I don't have anything else but that and the trim) into where it mounts in the front valence. Turns out that on each side (6" or so from the corner) the top part is bowed (warped?) up a little. However, it seems so perfectly symmetrical that it may just be the way it was manufactured or something. Does mounting it on the reinforcement straighten anything out? If not, the gap is gonna annoy the shit out of me.

If this isn't too clear, I can take pictures.

    Just an update.

Took off Nick325iS's bumper today and it looks like the fiberglass reinforcement will take care of how the top of the bumper sags a little. Solid.

I have the rear bumper skin too, but I probably won't get around to mounting it (properly) for awhile. I haven't decided on a valence yet - they are very few I like.

Sounds Awsome, I saw an 84 318i the other night which I though was a 318is at first glnce. It had the newer front valance, plastic bumpers both front and rear, basket weaves, and trunk spoilen. Then I noticed the old style Tail lights. It look pretty good.

What kind of an idiot would dump that much money into an 84 318i? :loco:

that is what I was thinking, I sure hope it's got something besides a standard m10 under the hood. I need to drive by again to see if I can catch the owner or something.
