What color are the cool kids painting their engine blocks these days?

Man... that's a long title. Anyway, I'm interested in getting my engine block, valve cover and maybe even my cylinder head powder coated. This is for the E34 M30 that I got from Permit

What should I do for the block? Or should I lose my mind and my financial restraint and get something like this? Yes, I know I don't have an S14, but I'm just thinking about paint.

I did my block in a gray - meant to have it in dark gray, but the engine shop misunderstood me, methinks.

It'll end up matching my factory color pretty closely - so I'm kind of thinking it'll look pretty good! And, I'll get to see if there's any leaks! lol

I've done some custom valve covers for several guys and theyve been quite satisfied. they were all a bit different but still quite nice.

I have a blank m30 valve cover that permit was going to have me do before he sold it but I was quite busy. It's ready for whatever you would like to do. PM me if you would like.

Do you guys powdercoat these blocks or just spray them? I would think spray paint would become a mess quickly. I imagine it probably costs a small fortune to powdercoat a block.

I just media blasted my block until it was bare, primered it and sprayed it
                            with high quality engine enamel.

I've spraybombed engine blocks in the past, it's really not that bad. never had any of it come off.

my block was covered in several layers of rust, which I had to chip off with a screwdriver, then I wire brushed the whole thing and painted it with black engine enamel (which I happened to have lying around from several years ago). it's not perfect, but I don't really care what the block looks like.
