I read the first paragraph of the wikipedia article about neoprene. This being said, I declare myself an expert on the matter.

You don't think neoprene would be too bendy, do you? Yes, it's fabric reinforced, but I feel like that would make it stronger over a small length at a time. ie, would the whole flap in its entirety hold against snow and ice being thrown against it? Then again, snow builds up a bit at a time, and this build up might even aid in strengthening the mud flap. Hmm!

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

Brian, I gotta tell you that the OEM flaps are the way to go if you can find a set. I know you said you wanted red for that sweet interior, but for the purpose of flapping mud, these things are awesome. Super thick luxy rubber, easy, stock mounting and even say 'BMW' on em. I'll keep my eye out for a set of flaps for you next time at the yard.

As for function, they do help keep the snow spray down, and I've noticed that I get almost no salt spray on my doors. Plus its nice when you park the car, just give them a light tap with your foot and all the accumulation falls right off. We should play in the snow sometime.

I don't think those will work... He's got an early convertible.
