    '88-91 door molding fade conspiracy...

What is the deal with a lot of '88-'91 E30 coupes having massive fading on the exterior door molding? I have noticed this on several cars over the years and was wondering if anyone knew why...

If you don't understand....check these pictures to help illustrate this problem:

(sorry for using member's cars as examples)

      Probably.

My '91 is an NC car, 230k miles, no fading (on the moldings atleast ;) )

Obviously it's from sunfade, but why don't the moldings on the fenders and quarterpanels fade as bad? Seems odd.

I've noticed the same thing.. mine's not faded either. my friends car is from oregon and it's faded like those pics. if it was just the sun though, why is it just the door peice that fades?

stu i have the same problem as well, on my car ive noticed that the plastic used on the door section of the tim is a different grade of plastic used and is actually softer, thats the reason i believe

i've noticed this problem as well. It bugs me to no end!! I was thinking of painting them or even buying all new trim. It would change the look alot. btw all my trim is fading, except for the peice that was replaced because of a PO accident.

I have no probs with you using my pic.

The camera I use now is shitty, my trim is however not faded :? The one on my eta was faded but the one on the m42 isn't. Unless the pics are really that distorted :?:

My car is an east coast car.

                        tara's car is fine.

that first red car just looks like there's wax that got on the trim.

mine are fine even the one peice on the passanger door from Spaz up in Canada. The rest have been in WA since 1988 and my old ones that came original on my car were all sun faded i think and the car was from cali so of course it was because of the sun.

My passenger side is bad but my drivers side looks brand new. I guess the po could have parked in the same spot everyday and the sun always hit the passenger side or something.
