A detailing job everyone should do...

Shampoo your carpets. I just did mine today. When I finally emptied out the waste water reservoir, the water was BLACK, and about the consistency of chocolate milk. There are still a few stains (looks like soda ), so I'm going to hit them with Spray 'n Wash, scrub them up real good, then shampoo the whole thing again. I even did the rear deck and the trunk carpets.

Now that winter is getting to be over, it's a great time to get all that dirt from the snow and/or rain out of your carpet. All you guys with dark colored carpets, there's a lot of shit hiding in there you can't see. And it makes your car smell nice and fresh, too!

If you or your family don't have a carpet shampooer, just go to Albertson's or something and rent one, they're like $10 or around there. It's WELL worth it.

Done it to both my e30's but I completly pull the carpet out of the car, and hoes it completly out at least 3 times with watter, then I spray on cleaner and get scrubbing then hose out a couple more times, then into the attic it goes to dry. Every time carpet looks great, our 528 carpet is in the attic right now ready to go back in when ever the car decided to start again.

I desperatly need to do this. My carpets are disgusting in spots, but how does this stuff dry? I don't know how carpet shampooing works.

        Sold it.

A steam cleaner/carpet shampooer has a vacuum too that sucks most of the water out of the carpet; the rest just air drys in a day.

But winter is not over, it snowed here in western Mass last night and has spit at us a little today.

Great tip though makes the ride less lived in.

If the shampooer has a handheld attachment with a hose (like mine does), I would say go for it.

But I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong. I would call an upholstery shop or a cleaners before you do it.

FYI. Every detailing place I have ever worked at had small space heaters. The ceramic heater type. You just leave it in the car overnight with the car all closed up. Make sure to crack one window open about 1/2in. Otherwise the moisture can not escape. If you dont crack a window you will have really wet steamy windows in the morning.

I don't own one of these but about renting one... how does it work just water and some sort of shampoo. May carpet isn't in that bad of shape but my floor mats have seen better days. Might think about doing this over summer sometime

I took all the seats out and shampooed the whole thing a few weeks ago, the water was balck just like everybody elses. LikeCDoos, all it does is thouroughly spray the carpet with water and shampoo ( I use hot water, not sure if everybody does) then sucks most of it out with the vacuum.

Winter really never did much to my interior. I have huge rubber mats that are in 365 days a year, the carpets underneath are brand freakin' new. I still want to clean out the corners though, I don't think they have ever been shampooed.

Do you have the Weathertech mats? If not, which ones do you have? I'm in the market for some.
